The After-School All-Stars has six different, yet related, components, each led by a certified teacher selected by the Middle School principals:
- Academic Remediation and Enrichment (tutorial, homework, research, Media Center, math & science)
- Sports & Recreation (golf, tennis, gymnastics, chess, outdoor education, wellness and nutrition)
- Career Development (career prep success, Junior Achievement, mentoring, job shadowing, student leadership, oratory skills)
- Technology (MIRACLES and Dallas Austin Recording Studios) http://www.miracles.org/
- Cultural Erichment (art, dance, music)
- Parental Involvement
Academic remediation and enrichment is more than homework assistance and tutoring. While it does provide a time for the students to receive help with homework assignments, the after-school program enriches that experience through individual and one-on-one instruction by a certified teacher. Sports and recreation includes both traditional and non-traditional exposures to individual and team play. Carrying on the tradition of the Inner-City Games, good sportsmanship is always a top priority. Young people (even in the middle schools) need to be exposd to a number of career choices. Students in the after school program have in-job shadowing, mentoring, improved oratory skills, and other career development programs In this electronic age, children in the after school program are given instruction in a wide variety of technologie, ranging from electronics to web design. A unique program developed for the After-School All-Stars is MIRACLES. In cooperation with Dallas Austin Recording Projects, a fully equipped and operational professional recording studio is available for students to not only perform in, but to learn the unique engineering skills of professional recording studios.
